Northern lights tours, checked against tonight's forecast

By a fixed filter on the Viator catalogue: a rating of 4.3 or more and at least 20 reviews, applied to every tour found with the words northern lights or aurora in each destination. On 9 October 2026, 227 of 649 tours passed. The list is refreshed when the catalogue is fetched again.

No. A tour improves the odds because the guide drives to clearer skies and knows dark spots, but the aurora depends on geomagnetic activity, darkness and clouds. Compare the date with the Kp forecast on the home page and prefer operators that offer a second attempt or a refund when nothing appears.

Tromsø in Norway, with 57 tours that pass the filter, followed by Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland with 46, Reykjavik with 42 and Fairbanks in Alaska with 33, all counted on 9 October 2026. Yellowknife, Levi, Alta, Anchorage and Kiruna follow with smaller lists.

No. They are from prices reported by Viator for the cheapest option of each tour, in US dollars, at the time the catalogue was fetched. The final price depends on the date, the group size and the options chosen, and is shown on Viator before payment.

Because no tour in those destinations passed the filter on the day the catalogue was fetched, or because Viator lists none. The locations page still shows the aurora probability for them, so the forecast works even where there is nothing to book.

Yes. The links are affiliate links to Viator and the site receives a commission on bookings made through them. The price for the traveller does not change and the forecast data does not depend on it. The filter is the same for every destination and every operator.
